At 2pm on Jan 22nd 2016, the supermarket at Market Place closed its doors for the last time... until now. Clonmel Junction Festival invites the people of the town, along with award winning theatre company Asylum Productions, to join us in a theatrical reimagining of the former Market Place supermarket.
Next Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th of May from 2pm to 5pm, at the old Market Place Supermarket, Asylum Productions will hold an open casting session for actors 16 years and over, interested in being involved. No experience necessary – just availability for some weekend and evening rehearsals for the month of June, and the duration of the run, and an openness to having the craic.
“We're also looking for stories from townspeople, relating to the store”, says local writer and theatre maker Aideen Wylde. Even if you don't want to perform, come along and share your memories with us.” The store operated from the mid-90s as Superquinn, later changing hands to SuperValu before closing its doors in 2016.
With a cast of both professional and citizen performers, Everything Must Go! will be a comic critique of consumerism, and an immersive experience that finds inspiration in the abandoned. 'Come on down’ and witness the revival of the greatest collective experience of the 20th Century; shopping! The show, Everything Must Go!, will run from 1st to the 9th of July.
