James Butler, Duke of Ormonde, built the Main Guard. Representing the new order in Ireland, Ormonde’s family were musical. They were close to James II and he was entertained in the Main Guard in 1689. The Gregory Walkers brings together three respected Irish musicians, Laoise O’Brien (recorders), Malachy Robinson (violone/voice), and Éamon Sweeney (early guitars).
They combine their diverse experiences and talents to present an exciting and refreshing approach to the performance of old music. For this concert they are joined by award-winning Irish soprano, Róisín O’Grady. Featuring music by Jean-Baptise Lully, Turlough O’Carolan, Henry Purcell, Francisco Corbetta, Thomas Connellan, and from the Irish Tradition.
