About the artists

Eve Whelan is a 20 year old singer-songwriter from Clonmel. She is currently a second year BMus student at University College, Cork. She began her music journey playing the trumpet in local band Banna Chluain Meala. She holds a Senior Certificate in Music Theatre and Popular Singing from the Royal Irish Academy of Music. A lifelong love of singing and songwriting led to the release of her self-produced debut EP “Reflection" in 2021. Her latest single “Wasted Youth" was released last September and she is currently working on her first album due to be released later this year.

Kate Twohig is a singer/songwriter from Kilcash, Clonmel. She studied music at UCC where she found herself drawn to songwriting, performance and arranging. She gigged throughout these years in venues across Cork, Clonmel, Limerick and Dublin. Clonmel Junction Arts Festival always provided a great platform, where she had formative opportunities such as a 2013 collaborative project where she played keys and arranged string and brass music for guest artists including Jack L, Paul Walsh of Royseven and Gavin Glass. Kate has brought her music around Ireland opening for artists Mick Flannery, Paul Noonan, Jape, Brian Kennedy, Peter Broderick, Gavin James & more. Her music -described as "haunting", "enchanting" - draws on dream pop, indie-electronica & has been likened to Julee Cruise, Lana Del Rey & Lykke Li.

Rebekah is a versatile vocalist, and songwriter with a dynamic background as a performer. Her journey as an original artist kick started in 2009 while recording at Universal Studios under the guidance of Bedlam Management’ Steve Abbott (formerly Jeff Buckley's Manager). Inspired by this she started writing and performing as lead vocalist with her band She Speaks, before releasing a self-titled debut album in 2016, which is available on all streaming platforms. Rebekah has performed nationwide with She Speaks, various musical theatre projects, dance projects and more recently as a session vocalist including venues such as the Olympia Theatre, Electric Picnic, Whelans and more. She recently completed a 4-year degree in popular music qualifying with a Bachelor of Popular Music (BAPM).During this time, she has been exploring different songwriting styles and techniques. She will present a selection of her work at the Clonmel Originals Music Trail 2023.

E.J. Mae is an established Vocalist and Songwriter. She graduated with a music degree in Creative Musicianship from B.I.M.M. Dublin in 2018. Served as a board member of the Danish songwriting group Århus Sangskriverværksted for two years and has most recently completed a course in Radio Broadcasting. Her debut single is set for release in September 2023.

Shabbz believes in the importance of artistic integrity, favouring a quality control approach to music. Instead of pumping out frequent, algorithm-based releases, he instead prefers to deliver works of art; celebrating the importance of each brush stroke, in the final painting. Having commenced his music journey in 2020 with the release of the underground favourite “King of the South”, Shabbz music has since seen him gain a loyal following, amassing thousands of listeners worldwide.

Ruairí de Leastar has been honing his craft and enrapturing audiences with his songs of hope and fervent wisdom for the past fifteen years. He has been an accomplished songwriter from a young age, and has fronted many successful bands and duos. A musician of true passion, Ruairí has shared the stage with acts such as Duke Special, Lisa Hannigan, Jerry Fish, Jack L and Foy Vance.

Stuart Connolly is a singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Clonmel, Co. Tipperary. He is a very experienced musician and has played with numerous bands around the country including Deuces Wild, The Waheys and The Paddies. He has performed solo gigs in many venues. Recently Stuart has performed during The Clonmel Junction Arts Festival and Clonmel Applefest. Stuart is a prolific songwriter. He cites new wave, alternative and electronic genres as influences and he draws inspiration from acts such as Depeche Mode, Echo and the Bunnymen, Interpol, Tears for Fears and Scott Walker. He recently collaborated with Uproar on his original song. Stuart plans to release an EP later this year.

The Cedartowns are made up of Mary and Michele Nugent, Tom Kenna, Andrew Kennedy, Seamus Hayes and Brendan Hunter. Blending influences of blues, folk and pop sensibilities into a distinct and exciting new sound, their well-crafted original songs feature the blood harmonies of Mary and Michele Nugent, complemented by excellent musicianship. A popular band on the festival scene, The Cedartowns' music is a journey of emotive melodies, foot-stomping tunes and sweet harmonies that translate beautifully from intimate setting to the stage.

Dave & The Hesitations consists of Dave Hastie, Alan Acheson, James Healy and Ross Boland. The group was formed out of a mutual respect for each other's talent and musical ability. Dave Hastie, who is fronting the group, has a long running history of playing live music across Ireland, England and other parts of Europe. Many people will recognise him as the lead vocalist from Jukebox Gypsy. Dave is now being backed by The Hesitations, a local group of young, talented musicians, Alan Acheson, Ross Boland and James Healy, who have been active on the Clonmel music scene over the past 10 years.

ClonMelody, the new music-events initiative that earlier this year in March brought international choral sensations CHOIR! CHOIR! CHOIR! to Clonmel for a sold-out magical evening in Old St Marys Church, are thrilled to be back for a special 4th of July US-themed Big Sing- a Pub Choir Event in Carey’s Pub, Irishtown.  A blend of interactive music-making, community building and singing workshop for music lovers of any background, come along and sing classic songs by American musical legends in a fun and friendly setting.

The Benedictine Quartet is a musical collective spawned in the Phil Carroll’s midweek improv sessions with the late greats Philip Donnelly and Tony McLoughlin along with current members Sean Deegan and Dylan Fogarty. The name is taken from the monks secret formula for all things good for the lungs, purely medicinal of course!! Their mission statement is to leave every audience enriched in an acoustic experience delivered with the passion the songwriter intended. They pay homage to the acoustic Country/Americana genre populated by the great Texan songwriters Townes Van Zandt, Nanci Griffith and Guy Clark to County Down’s unique son Tony McLoughlin, Dublin’s own Philip Donnelly and the artists he supported along the way, John Prine, Lee Clayton and the Everly Brothers. Sean Deegan - lead Vocals and guitar; Dylan Fogarty - Lead Guitar and Vocals; Stephen McGrath - Double Bass; Ross Boland - Percussion, guitar and vocals.

Cormac combines elements of folk, pop and rock; with introspective and honest song-writing to create an earnest musical experience. Cormac's debut single 'I Don't Need Your Love' was released in 2020,independently amassing over 20,000 streams and featuring on BBC Introducing and RTÉ Radio 1 Recommends. This was followed up by his second single 'Feel Good' that same year. 2022 heralded the release of Cormac's debut EP, 'Things We Don't Control', recorded with a full live band at the Black Gate Studio, Galway. The singles taken from it, 'Patriot' and 'Hard-wiring' also featured on RTÉ Recommends and BBC Introducing respectively.

Crow Black Chicken are a power trio who combine elements of folk and hard rock with the blues rock of bands like Gov’t mule, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Led Zeppelin. The band was formed in 2009 in Cork city when lead singer Christy O’Hanlon met the former rhythm section of Clonmel Punk Rock outfit Aural Ammunition, Stephen McGrath ( Bass ) and Gev Barrett ( Drums ). The band immediately jelled and went on to perform on the BBC Introducing stage at Glastonbury 2011. The band released their first raw blues rock and roll albumin 2012 which was produced by Producer Philip Magee ( Kodaline, Aslan, The Blizzards ). The bands second album Rumble Shake was released in 2014 and debuted at number 12 in the Irish album charts. Recorded in Westland Studios Dublin, this album was a more roots and blues affair than the first record, heavily influenced by the bands work with Texan Americana singer Ray Wylie Hubbard and legendary Austin Producer the late George Reiff. In 2015 the band went on to release their first live album entitled Deep South which was voted top 5 live albums of 2015 by Classic Rock Blues. In 2016 Crow Black Chicken opened for ZZ Top at the Marquee in Cork which brought them face to face with the Texan compatriots whom they often drew so many comparisons to. Always determined to create a sound all of their own the band continues to tour all over Europe and have since released a 4th studio album Pariah Brothers in 2017. Winners of the Introducing stage at Skegness Rock and Blues (UK) 2019 and Minehead Giants of Rock (UK) in 2020 and set to headline HRH Blues in the O2Sheffield in 2021 the band continues their extensive touring of the UK. After the release of their latest Live Record South Roman Street the Crow Black Chickens 5th studio album is already in the pipeline.

The Wood of O is singer-songwriter Breege Phelan and songwriter/composer Will McLellan, who have been mesmerizing audiences for the past six years with their unique original material and classic folk songs. If you enjoy distinctively haunting vocals that reach into the bottom of your soul, and melodic fingerstyle acoustic guitar that flows between genres, then this group is worth searching out. Breege is described as a dynamic and soulful performer whose voice is regularly compared to vocalists like Joan Baez. Combined with Will’s musical chops and ability to create heart-rending melodies, ‘The Wood of O’ is guaranteed to leave you wanting more.

They recently expanded their line-up to include Clonmel guitarist Liam O'Reilly, bassist Tom Scanlan and the dynamic Rebekah Keogh on backing vocals, bringing to life the songs from their recently released six track, debut EP ‘Mountain Sky Moon’. This EP encapsulates the duo’s diverse storytelling ability with songs inspired by the pirate queen Gráinne Ní Mháille, the abolitionist Harriet Tubman, the Leannán-Sí of Irish mythology, the political Aisling style poems of the 17th and 18th century and of course, the obligatory nod to heartbreak and revenge.
