Kila

Kila, formed in 1987 in Dublin, are a dynamic septet of traditional Irish musicians. The group have recorded five albums collectively as Kila and several as solo performers. The bands biggest selling album has turned platinum and was recently voted into the Best 100 Irish Albums Ever.

Describing their sound as Nua Trad (meaning new traditional) the band have mixed elements of Eastern European music and the rhythms of West Africa to create an explosive sound that is wholly unique while deeply rooted in the traditions of Ireland.

In 2004 the band toured in 14 countries on 4 continents. Plankton of Japan release Luna Park and Tonnta R, while on tour there they played to 40 million viewers on Japans News 23 programme. In Taiwan a record company called Jingo released Luna Park making it 6 territories where Kila have secured licensing deals.

Among the many festivals they visited in 2004 were 4 Womads, The Forum Barcelona and Szeigit in BudaPeist. Kila Live in Dublin was released on the 22nd of Oct and the band did a 15 venue tour of Ireland to wind up an extremely successful year.
