Rivers and Waterways
We are back this year with another set of projects focussing on rivers and particularly our  very own River Suir which flows so beautifully through the town of Clonmel.

‘Currents’, the primary school project will be dedicated to a flag installation
devised by Patricia Looby, celebrating river, flora and fauna. We are aiming to make at least one thousand flags to hang on O’Connell and Mitchell street. For this project, the South Eastern Fisheries Board is supporting us with some excellent environmental workshops and educational packs.

On the adult front, we have ‘Orient Express-O’, a textile project exploring European travel and geography, which aims to engage large numbers of adults from all walks of life from throughout the Clonmel community. The final tapestry will be exhibited in the lobby of the Chadwick’s theatre, as part of a Turkish Café environment.

‘Flow’ is the working title for our community park this year, which we are planning to locate on Suir Island as part of a larger endeavour to bring awareness to this little-known area of Clonmel. As previously, we will have costume-making and other arts activities on offer as well as instrument-making and drumming and a full programme of  street performances. The Community Park will be followed immediately afterwards by the Community Procession, which will lead us to the Town Hall for the official Festival Opening Ceremony, with more performances and music. So pencil in the 5th July for an afternoon of fun and excitement!

On the workshop front, we will be back in the Chadwick’s building and will be having daily yoga classes again, as well as drop in children’s art most afternoons and a full programme of activities for teenagers. Watch this space for  regular updates.
