Stemming from time spent working on a lighthouse in Norway, The Lighthouse Journal is a collection of poetry by award-winning poet and Clonmel native Laurence O’Dwyer. Thanks to a Tipperary Arts Office commission, he has created an interactive multi-media app to accompany publication with Malte Olsson (aka Macalaus, the indie game developer and musician). The two previously collaborated on the atmospheric innovative game ‘Little White Rocket’ and Junction are screening a ten-minute film, narrated by Asylum Production’s Donal Gallagher for the launch of The Lighthouse Journal, published by Templar Poetry.
Also screening is I Oedipus, an aria from the new electronic opera iGirl by visionary composer Roger Doyle with libretto by acclaimed playwright Marina Carr. Commissioned by CJAF for the 2020 festival, film maker and visual artist Trish McAdam has created an art music video for the aria sung by counter tenor Morgan Crowley. RTÉ lyric fm will broadcast iGirl in full for Opera Night with Paul Herriott on Saturday 26th September.
Finally, River Towns are Winged Towns showcases CJAF20’s Spoken Word event, featuring recent work by local poets celebrating the heritage and nature of the River Suir. Curated by Eileen Acheson, this edited film gives a taste of the full event with work by Mark Roper, Grace Wells, Eileen Acheson and Joe Whelan. All events are free but need to be reserved in line with the well-planned COVID-19 safety plans.
