TALKING TIME |

| The idea of Talking Time is to create dialogue about the arts, embracing some of the key themes from this year’s festival, including the main theme, ‘Motion and Migration’. The discussion will be chaired by well known personalities. Many of the festival’s performers and artists will contribute to these lively discussions.
Monday 9th July - ‘The Importance of Traditional Music in Africa Today’, with Nikens Nkomo of Kasai Masai and Martin Craddick of Baka Beyond. Tuesday 10th July - ‘Human Dignity and Development’ - questions the methods that could be used to provide empowerment in a developing community and how the arts can provide a meaningful platform for engaging with the developing world. Wednesday 11th July - Farm in the Cave director Viliam Docolomansky in conversation with Wolfgang Hoffmann, Director of The Dublin Fringe Festival, about the making of “Sclavi” and the challenge of portraying immigration on stage. Thursday 12th July - ‘Pride of Place; can art contribute to creating a stronger community?’ Hosted by Deirdre Healy of the national arts agency ‘CREATE’ - focusing on arts in the community, something that The Junction Participation Programme addresses. Friday 13th July - ‘The Web of Possibility; publishing and publicising music in a digital age’, with Irish Times journalist Jim Carroll. Saturday 14th July - ‘The Musician’s Role in Recreating Cultural Identity’ with Michael Ó Súilleabháin among the guests discussing the transient nature of cultural identity and how musician’s working within their native style can develop and redefine identity. |
