Participation Programme
Welcome to the Participation Programme
Clonmel Junction Festival’s Participation programme was set up in 2004 and has over the years hosted an annual Primary school project, as well as numerous adult visual arts projects. More recently, the Fesitval has ventured into performance projects, with an annual choral project (since 2010) and a clowning project (2011). The Festival prides itself on involving people from varied backgrounds in its work with professional artists, be they as makers, performers, volunteers or audiences.
This, of course, includes, children for and with whom the Festival devise a new visual arts project each year. This year, the facilitating artist, Lyn Mather, will bring “Journeys of the Imagination” to ten local schools. The resulting colourful banners will be seen in the summer in the town centre.
The Festival will also be hosting another choral project this year, the details of which will be available at a later date.
Since 2009, the Festival has hosted an annual series of participative arts cafés (Cafés Carte Blanche). This year there will be three interactive spaces: The Media Cave, a multi-media arts café , The Garden Menagerie, a space for families to play, relax and enjoy, and The Common Thread Café that will play host to a daily lunchtime critics’ circle and teatime talks with special guests.
The festival is committed to developing the area of Arts and Health. Following last year’s Apple Arts & Wellbeing café, the team behind the space continue to explore the relationship between arts & health with an ongoing dialogue with health and community service providers.
The Common Thread Café opened its doors in April 2010 and is the Festivals year-round community and arts café, nurturing and hosting a wide range of artists and activities, with a mixture of workshops, talks, concerts, and sessions, as well as providing rooms for hire and innumerable cups of tea. Last Autumn, the café hosted a Youth Kulture Night and the twice monthly Storycircle has resumed on Friday evenings. To keep abreast of activities in the café, why not subscribe to our newsletter or follow us on Facebook?
